A Milestone
Even after the Shirtwaist Fire, it took some time before worker safety regulations officially were enforced. OSHA, the Occupational Safety Health Association, created safety regulations for all workers in a work zone whether it be practice fire drills, personal protection equipment (PPE), bloodborne pathogens, how to operate certain machinery, and many more.
Before OSHA and their safety regulations, workers didn't have any knowledge of what they needed to know or even have when they were working. Back then, workers didn't have enough elbow room to do their work in factories, have fire exits, what to wear when operating heavy machinery, or even how to deal with an open wound properly in order to cease an infection. Today, OSHA has established many safety regulations in a work place for employees to remain safe. In fact, in some work places they require their employees to become OSHA certified in order to do their job such as engineering. To be certified, one would need to take a ten hour class, whether it be in an actual classroom or on a computer, and pass the final test along with the other tests after each section. In relations to Las Vegas, and other casinos around the world, they are required to have regular fire drills for their employees, but they don't imply to the guests that are in the casino.
Since the Shirtwaist Fire, many businesses go through safety inspections, have safety training for certain situations (i.e. someone going into cardiac arrest and needs treatment before the medics arrive), and many more that could be listed here.
